A pocket full of acorns

My Buddha received the contents of my pockets

You might wonder where Alexander and I get our inspiration from.

Have you ever collected acorns? I have since I was a child, and it’s so much fun! Acorns are a symbol of new beginnings, and they’re such a delight to find. As an artist and designer, I find collecting acorns inspirational and meditative. I am in the moment and I am present with nature.

At lunchtime today, I was out for a walk with my Westie Mirrie, and we came across a grove of oak trees. They had been there for years, and pathways wove their way between them from being walked on so many times. As I placed my hands against the rough bark trunk of one, I thought about how much life the tree had given to others. And then it hit me: we’re a lot like that tree.

We give life to others through our art, design, and spiritual practices. But sometimes we need to take a step back and nourish ourselves as well.

So filling my “pocket” with acorns and walking my dog was a form of self-care and meditation as well as artistic inspiration. Side-note, another reason dresses should always have pockets!

NFT collectors may be in for a surprise when they start looking for acorns this Autumn. I can see some acorns sneaking into our NFT collection. While they are traditionally associated with Fall, acorns can be found year-round depending on where you live. So don’t wait until the leaves start to turn — get started on your collection today!
