Earth Ritual: Connection
We are all made of stardust, but to what extent do we remember that?
We rush. We hurry. We busy ourselves. Yet, our lives pulse with the rhythm of the universe, each breath carrying us closer to the great mystery. The element of earth and our planet Earth are intrinsic to birth, life, and death. The trees, the sky, the wind — all of these elements offer us a connection to the Earth that is both grounding and inspiring. What are the gestures you make to connect with the natural world and honour the place you hold in it?
As artists, we often reflect on the deeper meanings behind our work. We may look to our personal lives for inspiration, or explore spiritual concepts in order to create something that is truly meaningful. In a world that can sometimes seem so dark, it’s important to find ways to connect with the beauty and mystery of life. For me, one way of doing this is through symbolic ritual. By performing specific actions tied to my beliefs and values, I am able to feel more connected to the universe as a whole. In my earlier post A Pocket-full of Acorns I talked about self-care, inspiration and artistic expression through a connection to Nature.
When we think about our connection to the earth, most of us likely consider our physical relationship — we live on land, breathe air, and drink water. But what about our spiritual connection? Whether we are exploring the beauty of landscapes and seascapes, or finding ways to express our connection to the natural world in our work, nature provides us with a wealth of material to draw upon.
For artists, designers, and spiritual folk alike, there is a special kind of magic in tapping into Gaia, the ancient Greek goddess of the earth. By understanding her symbolism and mythology, we can create works that connect us more deeply to the planet we call home. In our latest WICGAN Collection Earth Ritual we connect with this beautiful elemental energy and spirit through our art. Thank you for reading! We look forward to connecting with you.
